Beauty Chat with Gucci Westman

A few weeks back I was given the chance to sit down with celebrity makeup artist and Revlon's global Creative Director Gucci Westman to chat about all things beauty in celebration of the launch of Revlon on ASOS this month.

Gucci's client list reads like a who's who of the Hollywood A List... Gwyneth Paltrow, Natalie Portman, Drew Barrymore, Emma Stone, Halle Berry, Jennifer Lawrence, Elle MacPherson, Jessica Biel and Taylor Swift to name just a few. In fact, there aren't actually that many people Gucci hasn't made up. When I asked her who she would most love to work with in the future, she struggled to give me an answer! She did say that she loves working on interesting, more mature faces, rather than the younger models, as it's more than just a blank canvas of perfect skin.

Gucci's approach to makeup utterly cool and relaxed. Her biggest pet peeve is looking overdone and wearing too much makeup. On a personal level she doesn't wear a lot of makeup herself and likes to look a little 'undone', perhaps with a touch of smokey eyeliner, but when it comes to her clients, anything goes. She told me she finds it hard to pick favourite shades as it depends on the occasion and the face she's working on at the time, but when asked what her favourite Revlon products were, she raved about the classic Cherries in the Snow lipstick (a total red lip staple) and also the newer Revlon PhotoReady Prime & Anti-Shine Balm (I've been using this since then and really like it, it's like a solid version of Benefit's Porefessional at a fraction of the price.)

Gucci had just stepped off a plane from New York and also gave me a few of her top tips for staving off jet lag. (I always take not when talking to makeup artist about jet lag, as they travel so much and work with people who travel a lot all the time, so they usually have the best tips!) She told me that she tries her best to hit the gym regularly to keep active and awake and also recommended drinking green juice to keep your digestion working for you, but mostly stressed the importance of looking after your skin. She actually seemed equally as passionate about skincare as makeup, which does make sense considering good skin is the best foundation for good makeup! She told me she uses gentle acid peels on a daily basis, combined with intense overnight masks to keep her skin moisturised and fresh.

We also spoke about some of the upcoming Revlon products, and Gucci spoke most passionately about the new Revlon Ultra HD lipsticks. They aren't out in the UK till April, but they are gel-based (the new hot texture for lipsticks in 2015 according to Gucci) They are super light weight and comfortable to wear, but pack a serious punch of pigment at the same time. I've been giving a few of the shades a little road test this week and I really love them. They are so comfortable and have a really nice fruity scent. I'm particularly loving the rich, dark pink 'Petunia'.
L-R: Iris, Petunia, Poinsettia, Hydrangea

Petunia in action this week - My fave shade!
You can now find Revlon online at ASOS.com. The new range of Ultra HD Gel lipsticks launch in the UK in April.

Collection Eyes Uncovered Palettes - Review & Swatches

I've been trying out these new palettes from budget beauty brand Collection for the past couple of weeks. I resisted the temptation to post about these straight away (which I wanted too, because let's face it, they look exciting, and they swatch really nicely!) However I wanted to give them a proper test run, as good swatches don't always mean great wear time...
I'm really pleased to report that these didn't dissapoint...

Nail Spring-spiration from Burberry

Today I wanted to share a few pictures of the new swoon-worthy nail colours from Burberry's Spring 2015 collection. From what I've seen in the high-end collections so far, dusty rose shades, frosty lilac tones, vibrant corals and rich, deep pinks are going to be on everyones nails this Spring, and I can't wait!
Of all the Spring collections this year, I was most impressed by Burberry's offering. The three shades are all equally as beautiful and the formulation is rich and opaque.

The Glam Guide BOOK TOUR!

So today I come to you with VERY exciting news! As many of you will already know, my first book The Glam Guide is released on February 12th and I'm very happy to announce that a book tour WILL be happening!

The process of writing a book has been such a collaborative one thanks to all of your incredible suggestions, feedback and support. It wouldn't be right to launch the book itself without coming out to meet as many of you as I possibly can!

There will be five signings in total, the details of which are below...

To find out more information about each signing, check out the websites below (neither are ticketed, but you do have to have a book to join the queue and for some of the events you will have to collect a wristband from the store as well.)

WHSmith Events (Sheffield, Manchester & Lakeside) find more info HERE.
Waterstone's Events (Milton Keynes & Bluewater) find more info HERE.

I really hope some of you will be able to make it, it will be amazing to meet you in person and share my book with you all! Don't forget to let me know on Twitter, or in the comments if you're coming!

If you want to be super keen and AMAZING, you can also pre-order the book on Amazon HERE.

Lots of love and hopefully see some of you soon! :)

Blogging Block, Book Update and January Resolutions

It's been rather quiet on the blog recently. I've been meaning to write this post all week but it's taken me ages to actually get around to it. I'm not entirely sure why, but I would say it's something rather like writers block. Let's call it blogging block... pretty much the same thing.

Over the past few years there has been more and more pressure on bloggers to upload daily, but over the past couple of weeks I haven't really had much to share with you all on here. Between my YouTube beauty videos, daily vlogging in December, Instagram and Twitter, I've already been sharing most of my life. Top that off with writing a book, and it equals very limited time and content for blog posts. I'm really sorry for that, but it's set to change soon as I'm super happy to say that I've finally finished off writing my book (save a couple of proof-reads!)

It's been quite an interesting process for me to say the least. When I first went in for a meeting with my publishers, Headline, I told them I was determined to write the book myself and not to use a ghostwriter. Partly because I quite fancied the challenge, and also because I wanted to be able to put something out that was truly mine, written for you. The following couple of months have been pretty hectic. I've actually really enjoyed the process but it's been a very tight deadline so there have been many late nights and early mornings. In case you haven't seen my latest video, or Instagram posts, this week we confirmed the final cover for the book. We actually went back and forth quite a bit making sure we got it just right, and I'm so happy with the results.

The design of the inside is equally as gorgeous and I'm so excited to finally be able to share it with you all on February 12th. I'm going to be doing a few book signings around the country too, and I'll let you know the details of those as soon as I do! I'm working on getting to see as many of you as I can, but we obviously have to have the resources available in the shops to be able to host events. I think that's the part about releasing a book I'm most excited about, getting to meet you and see your reactions to it! That, and going into a real book shop and buying a real copy of my (real!) book!

On another note (seeing as we are having a bit of a catch-up!) I've also been having a bit of a January detox this week. I haven't made a New Year's Resolutions video this year (I did last year, but I'm not sure it would be too different from that one, when looking at the entire year!) but I have set some specific goals for January. I feel like January is the first step. If I can make it through January sticking to my goals, then I'll re-assess what is realistic for the whole of 2015!

Firstly I'm not drinking (nope, I'm not pregnant, totally not ready for that yet!) I did dry January last year and felt really good for it so I've decided to do it again this year. I've also been juicing every morning (usually a combination of apple, celery, cucumber, spinach, mint and occasionally beetroot or courgette too) I've been in to juicing for ages, but I don't usually do it daily because of the clean up effort it requires. After a week of having a green juice daily though, I think I'm converted. I feel amazing and full of energy - cleaning the juicer is definitely worth it! My third 'January resolution' is to work out every week day. For me this is a lot more than normal (usually I work out 2 times per week, 3 maximum) I've stuck to it so far and I have to say I've really been enjoying it. I'm going to do a video on my routine and a little fitness haul on my YouTube channel soon as I want to talk about that in more detail, but in general, I'm loving it and I can already feel the difference in how I feel, and my energy and fitness levels. January can be such a down and depressing month, I'm determined to kick it in the ass and get myself ready for the book launch in February.

So there are my updates! I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and New Year! What are your resolutions for the year? Are you sticking to them so far?!

My book is also up for pre-order already, so if you're feeling super-duper keen, you can order it here :)
